2006 tsunami
But despite the little improvements Pangandaran is yet far away from any comparement with Bali. The 2006 tsunami wiped hotels, restaurants away and torned families apart. Tourism is growing but very slowly.

Local tourist are afraid of a new tsunami or earthquake and staymostly far away. Foreign tourists cannot fiend any information about Pangandaran and just skip it : the long bus journy from the nearest cities Bandung and Yokjakarta also does not work in the advantage of Pangandaran. A little airport on the seaside - fair enough for a Chesna - is flying once in a while to Bandung. But it transports only frozen fish untill now.

However, for those who have been runned over in big tourist centres like Bali and those ho are looking for some rest and chilling space will have a good time in Pangandaran. Locals are used to foreigners and willl not follow you untill your hotel. People are friendly, laidback and always in for a chitchat

Beaches, although not as clean as they are supposed to be, are plenty and some of them very nice also. For snorkling, surfing and just walking Pangandaran offers enough for a couple of days.

When taking the train from Yokjakarta or Bandung to Banjar, be sure not to arrive after 5 pm because busses don't leave for Pangandaran at that time. From Banjar trains are leaving for Yokyakarta at 11.00 am.

When arrived at Soekarno Hatta Airport, grab a bus to Kampung Rambutan. From there busses are leaving direct for Pangandaran.

Don't want this hassle and need a quick ride to Pangandaran? We can pick you up also.
